Day 9 - Porthcurno to Sennen Cove - 26 Mar 18

Not sure why the App above called map "Map my Walk" thinks we ran this.
Maybe Linda could but I struggled to walk it....lol.

Linda had a wish to visit Lands End this year as later in the year we hope to visit John O Groats in September.

We had a Caravan booked at Sea Acres Holiday park for 4 days, but this was still an hours drive to Lands End.
So with our watchful eye on the weather, the day before we booked an extra night stay at a pub I held in esteem after our first visit, after we completed my first attempt of this walk on Day 1. Linda recalled me running towards the pub and downing a few pints in a few minutes. (Not my best idea as I was tipsy quite quickly).

Had a bit of luck on booking things, as https://www.oldsuccess.co.uk/ offered us a free upgrade to a better room which was nice.

Then as we were no longer bringing friends or family to http://www.parkdeanholidays.co.uk/cornwall-holidays/sea-acres/sea-acres-holiday-park.htm I phoned them and told them we no longer require a 8 Berth static caravan as we are now only 2.
They phoned back and offered us an upgrade to a Six berth with double glazing/central heating and a sea view.
I was on a role.

On the Sunday of the trip, Linda completed the Yeovil Half Marathon, which she did well getting in on the 2hr point. Linda volunteered my services as a Marshall, which gained me a free place in next years race. As I knew this would never occur, I suggested Linda email the organiser and ask if we can transfer my place to her. (you don't get if you don't ask) amazingly he agreed.

Again on Sunday before we left, Linda had arranged for us to attend an after Half Marathon meal organised by the Yeovil Town Road Running Club at The Manor Hotel. Linda was quite happy for me to have a drink or two, so as I have been suffering with stomach problems (yet to be diagnosed) I have found that beer upsets it, but Guinness settles it, so I tucked in. We must say the Sunday Lunch at https://www.oldenglishinns.co.uk/our-locations/the-manor-hotel-yeovil/ was above expectation and I found a discount on their Facebook page where you get the meal for 50% if you put your name under their post. Amazingly I managed to persuade the staff that the whole party of about 24 should get the discount and they accepted. we all had a great roast for about £5, not bad.

So Linda drove whilst I cat napped, just over 3hrs later we arrived at The Old Success Inn. A couple of drinks then bed as we were both tired.

With the weather being temperamental as in every time we looked on the forecast it changed, we decided to make the final decision of which walk to do.
There was to choices, a shorter walk of about 7 miles from Porthcurno or the longer walk from Lamorna about 13 miles. Luckily for me the rain was booked for 2pm, and the walk from Porthcurno was the sensible choice as walking in the rain would not be pleasant.  Also, it was the right choice as the rain hit at 2pm just as we finished.
We grabbed the local bus to Porthcurno which cost £8.80 for the both of us, but a lot cheaper than the taxi option.

Porthcurno
As you can see above and below, a lovely beach with nice sand.
Steps to the Minack Theatre

Strong stream flowing down the beach
Weirdly the stream just vanished into the sand.

View from above

As we had just started at the top of the cliff was Minack Theatre which we decided not to visit to try and beat the rain, but after leaving the area I received a message from my uncle stating we should visit and I wish we had the time and did.

I started of full of energy but as i have not had much physical activity for a while even though this walk was only 7.3 miles, I did find it particularly hard going.

Some of the lovely views below.

Can you see the mouse head? I could.

My favourite comment from Linda was "I love walking through the corpses" I laughed and agreed I actually would find that quite interesting. Then I explained that she really should of said "Copses".
We both laughed at the comment.

Eventually we got to Lands End, Linda wanted a photo at the sign post to John O Groats but they wanted £9.99 for one photo. As I walked away in disgust Linda sneaked a few from her phone.

The weather was on the turn now, for the first time on this walk we grabbed our hats and Linda donned her gloves, but with only about 1.5 miles left to walk it wasn't so bad.

Nanjizal beach with the caves was lovely. Photos are above.

As we got to Sennen the rain started. Back in the pub one quick one then off to Mullion for further walks.

To be continued.
