Day 7 - Lulworth Cove to Weymouth - 19 Aug 17
![]() |
Stats maybe slightly wrong as I paused a part we walked. |
So on planning, Linda (As usual) wanted to get another Park Run in the plans.
So Weymouth holds a park run at 0900hrs. This however did mean we would miss the bus to Lulworth. Luckily our friends Tina and Ian were on Holiday in Weymouth and agreed to drop us off in Lulworth after the run.
We caught the 0730hrs train from Yeovil Pen Mill and arrived at Weymouth about 0820hrs.
Then we had a 10 min walk along Weymouth front to the Sea Life Centre which is where the Park Run began and finished.
Linda ran well and was happy with her time.

Approaching the finish. |
As Linda did not want to carry her trainers, we both thought it would be a good idea to complete the walk in her trainers. She should be fine and we didn't believe this was a Strenuous stretch. (1st mistake).
Tina and Ian kindly shipped us to our starting point.
The area was already busy with tourists however that cannot hide the natural beauty of the area.

And so the walk begins. |
1st thing being both reasonably locals, we have been here before. As children and taking our own children.
So we remember the scenery and the effort required to walk to Durdle Door. We both found the inclines hard, but was impressed with the amount of tourists we overtook. Thinking my fitness must be improving until Linda pointed out that most of them had incorrect footwear, like flip flops. So back down to earth goes my ego.
Durdle Door was as beautiful as ever. I will let the photos do the talking.
On this walk we met various animals, but most were to quick to photograph. My highlight was a rare butterfly mainly found in Dorset called the Adonis Blue. We had a lizard jump out which did make me jump! And Linda found a Rose Chafer Beetle. See below.
Now the walk was in Linda's terms 8 humps, in my terms 8 mountains. The scenery was breathtaking and some photos below indicate as such.
After Durdle Door the tourists were few and far between until we hit Osmington.
I also found the spot for Linda to scatter my ashes and maybe consider a bench as the view was amazing and the lack of benches was obvious. But I may find other locations in the future but ATT this is the location.
About half way through this walk Linda and I both had issues.
Linda was getting a blister from her trainers, maybe our decision on footwear was a mistake. Now Linda being Linda carried on with barely a whimper.
I on the other hand was for no obvious reason getting stomach cramps and they were getting worse.
Yes, on a walk in the countryside things were getting worse. And of course I let Linda know, just a few times.
So we stopped in the Smugglers cove to one, have a drink and two allow me to use the conveniences.
Well the drink was lovely.
But unfortunately my body was not willing to allow me release from the stomach cramps. So we decided to walk on.
About 8 miles into the walk I was in agony.
Luckily and believe me JUST IN TIME, we came across a campsite. With external compost toilets.
I would of ran to them if I thought I could keep my cheeks clenched and run, but that was not an option.
Thankfully someone just exited one as we arrived as I would not of been able to wait.
Well 20 mins later I was a more content man. Linda had had a snooze in the sun whilst waiting for me.
Hoping we could carry on we ventured a bit further.
Nope 3 more visits to various public toilets occurred. This ruined a lovely walk for me and I am sure Linda as well.
We continued never the less, I was determined to complete this leg.
So we got to the last stretch a long drawn out walk along the seafront from Bowleaze Cove to Weymouth.
Linda decided the path was smooth enough to take her trainers off and walk in Socks to give her some relief from the rubbing.
We eventually arrived in Weymouth at about 1830hrs and caught the train back to Yeovil. The intention was to have a few beers in Weymouth first, but neither of us were up to it.
A hard stretch for us both.
Until the next time.

OK should of shown the forward view, but I can look out over Portland and Weymouth. |

I would avoid the left hand cubicle for a few years. |

The Osmington White Horse is a hill figure of King George III, cut into the limestone of Osmington Hill just north of Weymouth in 1808. |

Nice house looking out to sea, I could move here. |

The Old Pontins at Bowleaze Cove, now the Riviera Hotel. Still looked closed to me. |
