Day 18 - Porthcothan to Newquay - 23 May 19
This was our final walk of the break and always was going to be the second longest.
With tired limbs, we took off.....(I didn't moan much honestly).
So we had worked out that we could park at the Car Park at Porthcothan for about £6 and walk to Newquay and catch the bus (every two hours) back.
On arriving there was a sign that the car park was shutting at 1630hrs, although we expected to be back about that time, you never know, so I don't like deadlines.
So we tried to turn the car around and found a car park, we could see workers in the car park then realised it was a pub car park.
Linda went in and asked if we could leave the car there all day, to which they stated "yes, as long as we came in for a drink afterwards" Linda agreed that we would also eat there, so we were happy.
A bit of a walk to the start of the walk but only about 10 mins and all downhill.
We also decided rather than waiting for the bus, (another 30 mins) we would start and walk toward Newquay and catch the bus back to Porthcthan.
So we started. (I will let the photos do the talking as again the views were magnificent).
I don't know how Linda did it, but she got me to participate in another Selfie, I must of been delusional from exhaustion.
I had lots of comments about my T-Shirt and Grumpy. Sometimes I was and sometimes not, depended on how tired I was or close to the next pint.
Linda and I, yes even Linda were tired at this stage, I ached in most areas hips to toes. Linda was complaining of foot pain, like plantar fasciitis. Didn't stop her running as soon as we returned home.
(I am writing this 3 days after this walk and I am still aching in thighs and calves, with a toenail that I feel that is going to fall off).
A quick pit stop to fuel up with a Banana each, Linda thought it would be funny to take a photo.....I am oblivious as to why?
I usually walk in front of Linda, this is not to dominate her, it is to slow her down.
But I am also, quite good at spotting wildlife.
This time I noticed a Slowworm basking in the sun.
We could see other walkers walking towards us and as a good deed, Linda lifted the Slowworm up and placed him into the verge.
I stated, "I bet he was P*ssed off, it took him ages to get his sunbathing spot and you moved him".
Again, Newquay seemed to take an age to get closer, sometimes you would go around a cliff edge and it would look close, then you would walk for a stint with it out of sight, turn a corner and it looks further away again...so frustrating. (i knew a pint was waiting there for me).
As we approached Newquay we went through quite a stretch of built-up areas, which seemed wrong when completing the Coastal Path, but people do build next to the sea, so I suppose it is part of it.
So, we completed the loop by reaching the bus station in Newquay.
right next door was a Pub/Resturant which we both managed to climb into to refresh with a Pint.
Sorry, we were so thirsty the photo was delayed a little.
I had Bath Ales, Dark Star, not quite what it states on the glass but close.
To add insult to misery the toilets to this place was up 3 flights of stairs, I was already walking like I had an accident.
The waitress felt sorry for me, offered me to use the disabled, but I felt that was not appropriate so I struggled up the stairs.
The bus ride was supposed to take 50 mins, but as it was school kicking out time, the bus seemed to make lots of extra stops and took 90mins to get to Porthcothan.
Then getting off the bus was slow for me as my legs had seized, it was embarrassing, again walking like I had had an accident.
So, slowly up the hill to the pub.
A meal followed that seemed nice but for me was a little greasy.
And the drive back to the caravan for another early night.
Until next time.
