Day 1 - Pendeen Lighthouse to Sennen Cove

Please note this part of the coast is listed as Strenuous and was full of steep cliffs and inlets to walk.

On Tuesday 25th Apr 2017 we started off with the drive to Pendeen Lighthouse during which, heavy showers were hitting the car, it didn't bode well for the 1st of our coastal walks.
I had a flimsy waterproof but really did not fancy walking whilst wet.
We arrived at the Lighthouse and immediately took the wrong route (my fault, a little over excited) and ended up walking through bracken and added extra distance to the 9 mile route.

Walking through the tin mines was different but surreal.

I tried to push over one of the chimneys with some success.

I stood over a massive drop which we believe was a ventalation shaft for the miners, Linda decided against it.

ATT all was good, I was energised and invigorated.
I saw a family of seals from 200ft above, Chaffinches, Choughes, cows, long horned Beetle, Lizard and a Caterpillar. The Caterpillar being the only one I was quick enough to photograph.

Only met a couple of others on the route and they rarely seemed to have a sense of humour when I said "Are we there yet?".

We found that the path was well marked when it didn't need to be but poorly marked when you needed guidance. As in you would be walking along a single path, with a drop of several hundred feet one side and a barbed wire fence the other and a sign would appear telling you to keep straight on. (as if you was going to go another route!)
But when you came to 3 paths all going in what could be the correct route, nothing!

On one section, we was climbing over cliffs with massive drops onto rocks many feet below. At this point Linda refused and went back to find another path, I continued and we met up again within 10 mins.

Cape Canaveral as I kept calling it but it was really Cape Cornwall was amazing but windy as. Video is on my Facebook profile but the quality was not as good as I had hoped.

With a sign saying 3 miles to go I was happy then after walking forever I saw a sign saying 4 miles....gutted is an understatement. I began to lose energy and enthusiasm, Linda knew this point would come. So I was quiet and slow for a few miles.

Then we could see our final destination in the distance, my enthusiasm regained.
At every corner we imagined an Ice Cream van waiting for our custom, but it was never to be.

Sennen Cove in the distance
As we got closer we began to get some sandy beaches, which made a nice change but was harder to walk on and draining on my weary legs. Linda being a fit runner claimed to have no issues,

Our footprints. My ones are the deeper ones. LOL.
Plant which we intend to find out what it is.
Eventually 5 hrs and 47 mins later we reached the finish and to my delight a pub.
At this point I ran past Linda but within seconds realised that was not a good idea and slowed down.
The Pub was the Old Success Inn, which summed up my feelings.
I immediately downed 3 pints of St Austell's  Tribute Ale at 4.2% which I discovered was not the best re-hydration technique, but it tasted amazing.
Nice pub with good beer.

 Day 2 coming soon......
